Customs officers seized $4 million worth of cocaine in Puerto Rico, and arrested four passengers. (US CBP)
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (CBS12) — It will not be a white Christmas in New York.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Puerto Rico seized more than 350 pounds of cocaine bound for the Big Apple.
The cocaine is worth about $4 million, according to CPB.
Authorities at Luis Munoz Marin International Airport discovered the stash of cocaine when a private aircraft operator noticed four passengers on their way to New York had extremely heavy items in their luggage. The operator notified CPB. A K9 sniffed the sealed bricks and alerted to the possible presence of drugs. The bricks tested positive for cocaine, the CPB said.
Officers arrested the four passengers and handed them over to the Drug Enforcement Administration. Their names have not been released.
“CBP regularly works with our industry partners to discover nefarious actors attempting to exploit the air transportation system to conceal and move contraband from Puerto Rico into the US mainland,” indicated Edwin Cruz, CBP’s San Juan Area Port Director.
