The FBI's willingness to go along with these games is quite puzzling, to say the least.

Encontronazos at the airport

Before the arrival of the former official, a dozen citizens called by the Federation of Teachers of Puerto Rico received Keleher with a demonstration at the Luis Muñoz Marín airport. 

The former arrived in Puerto Rico at about noon from Washington DC

“(Julia Keleher) is repudiated by the people of Puerto Rico. She is the most despicable, most inhuman secretary who has set foot in the Department of Education, ”said Mercedes Martinez, president of the Federation of Teachers.r schools are the cradle of corruption," read the posters carried by protesters. They also chanted slogans such as "Fight yes, no delivery" and "Ricky, resignation", demanding the resignation of Governor Ricardo Rosselló Nevares

Former Secretary of Education Julia Keleher  pleaded not guilty in the seven criminal charges against her after arriving this morning at the federal court in Hato Rey, after she was charged by a federal grand jury.

Judge Marcos López imposed a bail of $ 30,000 after it was established that it does not represent a risk of escape or danger to the community. The prosecution initially requested a bond of $ 200,000.

Keleher did have his passport retained, although he can travel between Puerto Rico to Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania.

Defense attorney María Domínguez argued that the former official is unemployed and has zero income.

Upon arrival at the court, an avalanche of protesters was launched towards the former captain, who had to be escorted by federal National Security agents.

Keleher arrived accompanied by her lawyer, former federal prosecutor María Domínguez.

After being accused of seven criminal charges, the former had appeared last Wednesday at an initial hearing, behind closed doors, in the Federal Court of Washington DC

Keleher was released with the commitment to appear at the federal court in San Juan on or before July 17.

The former secretary did not issue a statement, because there is a gag order, said Dominguez. Keleher will appear this afternoon before a magistrate.

Federal authorities arrested last week in Puerto Rico the former ASES executive director Ángela Ávila and the president of BDO Puerto Rico, Fernando Scherrer Caillet. They also arrested contractor Glenda Ponce Mendoza and his sister, Mayra Ponce Mendoza.

In Connecticut, meanwhile, contractor Alberto Velázquez Piñol was arrested, who appeared before the Court on Thursday in San Juan.

All pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

A federal grand jury charged them with conspiracy to commit fraud, theft, electronic fraud, money laundering and money laundering conspiracy. Specifically the former Secretary of Education, federal authorities implicate her in two of three schemes.

The defense lawyers of the former Education Chief, María Domínguez and Javier Micheo, said in brief expressions last week that they are convinced of Keleher's incocence.

"She was a devoted public servant and assumed command of the Department of Education in extraordinarily difficult conditions," they said.

They also mentioned that, as the federal investigation process is controlled by the government, without defense involvement, "we are not surprised with today's accusation against Keleher."

"Charte"We want to see her prey and we want her to comply with the damage she did to public education in our country," Martínez said, recalling the closure of schools and the implementation of the charter school system.
